Busy Busy, no time to ...

close my door, take my shoes off, or change out of my jeans. It was an epic 9pm collapse of my brain and body (luckily Alex took the key out of my door and shut it for me after seeing my door wide open around midnight).

Work in the lab is bustling this week, with lots of preparation for Holly and Marthas' experiments, and I also have two extra labs this week. Not to mention my first Bio exam on Friday and the two quizzes I already had today. I'm telling you this because these are the things that no one wants to listen to. Everyone is busy, and everyone has a more challenging schedule. And everyone wants to tell you how much busier they are than you. But hey, Armando and I have figured out our Tuesday/Thursday lunch/nap schedule, so apparently something is going right!

Too much sleeping, Not enough dancing.

I decided to opt out of the CSA party on Friday night (mistake number one), and then proceeded to take a nap around 9pm (mistake number two)... in which I slept until 4am and missed out on fun Friday evening activities because of my stupid phone that doesn't wake me up.
But it's all good, because Saturday night was SALSA HEAT. That's right ladies and gents, the once a month salsa dancing extravaganza for everyone who's anything in the central florida area. I made it for the workshop this time, and danced with some pros (not really, but they seemed like it to me). Xerxes and I mastered a few of the steps, and Xenia and I had some time to experiment with some new dips... which may have ended with Xenia falling over a table. Soon I will post dancing videos, because words don't justify dance moves in the least bit.
In other quick news-- Niko and I are planning to get married so he can become a citizen, I'm going on a couple field trips this week for Biology and Oceanography, Karan and I might have a big bithday party, I got to the beach twice this weekend, Manute got kicked out of school, and Wiley just brought me a doughnut from 711. I love my friends.

Que Verguenza!

I put a black scarf in my laundry on thursday morning, and now several of my favorite articles of clothing have large black blotches on them. Including my new pajamas, my new jeans, and my favorite mustard-colored sweatshirt.

But more importantly, I went to the CSA meeting last night (Carribbean Students Association) and I really don't know why I thought it would be okay to think Minnesota was part of the caribbean. It's a bunch of really fun people though, and as long as I have Jonathan to translate slang words for me, I fit right in.

I spent all of Monday in Daytona Beach with Armando, Luis, Gabe, Niko, Jorge, and Andrea for Armando's birthday. It was really refreshing to be off campus and out of Melbourne, and I also got quite the education in latin music and language, because there were maybe 10 english words spoken to me all day.

And thanks to my personal trainer Alex, I'm getting closer to my goal of one pull up by my birthday. I've been going to the gym at least every other day to do my work out, and I'm exhausted. I think my 179 degree angle has turned into maybe 120. Earlier this week I was grooving to the music at the gym and someone saw me, and it was kind of a funny way to meet someone. His name's Mike, from Ghana, Aerospace grad student, and now I see him when I go to the gym past like 10pm.

More anecdotes later, I've got some catching up to do!

I should probably have decaf this morning.

Good Morning Ocean!
after 3:15 meal today I decided I should take a nap before dinner and studying. So I retreated to my cave, and at an unknown time there was pounding on my door (which is unlocked). I thought to myself, "ok, ok, it's probably someone wanting to go to early dinner... hmm I wonder what time it is... maybe like 5:30?" And then I checked my phone.

10:48pm

So after a seven hour nap, what do you do? have breakfast? call it a nap and go back to bed?
I think I'll go to the gym before it closes and then, in honor of Natalie, rearrange my room.

love,
a wide awake whitney!

Almost Friday

So I'm trying to get back into the swing of things here. I've been trying to get semi-full nights of sleep (except last night, I went to Roxy's Latin Night- Good times.), which is surprisingly helpful in being awake and alert the rest of the day. I still need to rearrange my room to be more comfortable, purchase more textbooks (booooo), and start going to a tutor for Chem2 because I think it might be the end of my life here. The good news is, my oceanography class is going to be wonderful. Dr. Trefry is beyond cool and totally a person I hope to be some day! (and conveniently, Justin from Dr. Johnson's lab is our TA)

more news later,
whitney!

I'm Not Wearing Socks.

Dear Ocean,

I'll be seeing you soon! But for now, I'm going to sit in my dorm room and stare out the window at the palm trees. Excuse me Florida, but it's January. Get with the program; January is supposed to be cold and miserable. So now I'm off to shave my 4-weeks-of-hair-growth legs and flaunt my Minnesotan skin.

love,
whitney!

less than 48 hours...

and I will be back in Florida.

I'm sad, this last week went by way too fast. There's so much I still want to do, and I haven't given Minnesota the proper love while being here. I didn't go to the art institute, I didn't go to Balls, I didn't go ice skating, I didn't see Jess or Ben, I didn't even step foot in the galeria or southdale, I didn't go to the dog park, I didn't go to the basilica, I didn't go to lake harriet, I didn't go to Uncommon Grounds, I didn't go to savers.

So maybe when I'm in a more optimistic mood I'll let you know what I did do.

Half full, right?

what's next, skinny jeans?

Dear Ocean,

I bought wannabe wedges. I'm sorry. I know I used to always fake throw up whenever I saw wedges because I thought they were so ugly, but I tried these on.. and they were so comfortable! So now I wear them while cleaning my room (Manute knows), and I might even bring them to Florida. (I can dance in them!)

Shamefully,
whitney!
